Dasha (dah-shah) Greek origin, n. “Gift of God”
This brown-eyed, Bay Area bred beauty has been singing almost as long as she has been breathing. She stumbled upon her gift one day while rummaging through her mothers cassette tapes, and at the age of five. Instantly hooked, she quickly learned songs like “Baby Come To Me” and “Down Home Blues”. Soon after, she entered her first talent, where she won singing, Mariah Carey’s “Vision of Love”. Even at a young age, she was able to touch listeners with the unsuspecting power and soul that she possesses. Intrigued by her own natural love of performance and self-expression, she pushed forward, following, what she believes is, her God-given purpose. She started writing songs at the age of 13 and spent most of her adolescent years recording, writing and performing. It wasn’t long before she found herself at the world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City. This would be just the beginning. Early in her career, she claimed 3rd place in The California Teen Vocal Championships and performed at many notable venues, as well as traveled to Europe to further the study of her craft. In middle school, she joined a kids performing arts company called Kids Who Care, where she starred in many musicals, including FAME, which was backed by Irene Cara. Acting stayed in her life through high school as she took on heading the Drama Club and starred in several plays on campus.
She left her home in Northern California and headed to sunny Los Angeles to pursue her career in entertainment. Being one of eight vocalist chosen to enter the UCLA Jazz program in 2004, she obtained a Bachelors of Arts in Ethnomusicology with a Concentration in World Music, where she studied under legends like Gerald Wilson, Barbara Morrison and Kenny Burrell.
Priding herself on not being put in a box, it wasn’t long before acting resurfaced in her life while at UCLA. She would find herself directing and leading the African Arts Ensemble at UCLA. And directing the African Women’s Collective’s Vagina Monologues. After graduating from UCLA, she went on the perform in children’s theater.
With many facets under her belt and over 20 years of experience, she has diversified her gifts and has taken on many titles such as actress, writer, director, blogger and most recently, radio host. You can catch her every Wednesday night co-hosting Cypher Lounge Radio and chatting up some of your favorite celebrities. Musically, she is continuously adding to her resume including: The Underdogs, Howard Hewitt, El Da Sensei , Rapper Big Pooh, Trav House, Chaundon and Nobody Famous among others.
